Lack of soil protection threatens tourist destination

Source: G1.com

The Prata River, a tourist attraction in Mato Grosso do Sul State, which receives a large number of visitors each year is currently under threat due to the high water turbidity caused by mudslides.

In the farms as well as in the roads of Mato Grosso do Sul State, it is possible to identify areas with total or partial removal of vegetal cover of the soil, mainly because of the change of land use, previously under pasture and now under agricultural crops.

With occurrence of rainfall, the uncovered soil has its solid particles disaggregated, transported and deposited inside the rivers by water of the runoff that flows superficially. In these conditions, the Prata River loses its tourist attractiveness, since its water is turbid, making the diving by its visitors unfeasible.

The most viable solution to this problem is the adoption of conservationist soil management, such as level planting, construction of containment boxes that prevents soil displacement, conservation of natural vegetation, use of cover crops and intercropping.
