Nowadays, there are many studies about Planet Mars, which has on its surface a sandy desert and an almost nonexistent atmosphere. These are unfeasible conditions for the development of life, as we know it.
However, researchers of the Institute of Hydrobiology at the Chinese Academy of Science are working on a project that can change this reality! Will it be possible?
The Russian scientist Vitaly Khoroshavin affirms it is possible that any soil becomes fertile, including Mars’ soil that has a chemical composition similar to that of Planet Earth.
But the conditions necessary for the development of life, and therefore the development of a fertile soil layer involve the presence of water on liquid state, oxygen, appropriate temperatures, nutrients and an oxidized atmosphere. However, Mars is far from offering such requirements! Despite efforts, the Chinese professor Na Zhongyan believes that this project will be difficult to implement.
Khoroshavin, on the other hand, believes that they will be able to fertilize Martian soils with the help of microalgae, since they create areas with suitable conditions and protected from the acting of adverse instabilities. For this, it will be necessary to use an artificial dome or some underground infrastructure that guarantees the necessary conditions, which it is not simple at all!
